A Notary Public

A Notary Public is a member of the oldest branch of the legal profession and is a specialist lawyer who holds an internationally recognized public office and can authenticate documents for use anywhere in the world. They are regulated by the Court of Faculties under the Legal Services Act 2007. A Notary Public is an independent and impartial law officer and must not do anything to compromise this. They are bound by regulation to act in the prevention of money laundering, crime, and terrorism. Unlike other lawyers, a Notary Public has a duty to those persons receiving and relying on the documents produced not just to person who instructs them.

Legalisation

Many countries around the world, especially those outside the Commonwealth, will require confirmation that our Notaries are duly authorized in England and Wales to act as Notary Public. This is done by a process known as legalization.

For most countries, this is done by me sending the completed document to the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office where an additional certificate is added to it together with the seal of the FCO which confirms my signature and seal as being genuine. This certificate is known as an “Apostille”.

We can arrange for legalisation of documents but you should be aware that there are additional costs involved in this process and it may take some time.
